You may have noticed there is snow on Pike's Peak, which means it's only a matter of time before Colorado Springs is covered in snow as well. Even though temperatures are just now starting to drop below freezing, it's not too late to start preparing your home for winter. We've got some quick tips to help with that:
  • Service your furnace: Some of this you can do yourself. You can go down to Home Depot and pick up a $4 filter. You're supposed to change them once a month - if you haven't in awhile, now is the time to do so. This is a quick, easy way to make sure your furnace runs efficiently over the winter months.
  • Hire a licensed HVAC Contractor: Have them come out to your house and clean, service, and certify your furnace. Have them make sure it's not leaking carbon monoxide or anything like that. If you would like a recommendation for a contractor we trust and use frequently, give us a call.
  • Clean your gutters: Check your gutters and make sure they are clear of debris. You want water to be flowing down the gutters properly, away from your foundation.
  • Disconnect hoses from exterior faucets: Turn off all exterior faucets - you don't want water freezing and cracking the pipes, which could cause you big problems down the road.
  • Mow over the leaves: Surely you've noticed the neighbor with the best yard in the neighborhood, but how do they do it? They may be using dead leaves as fertilizer - mow over them instead of raking. This causes them to decompose and serve as a natural fertilizer for your grass. It can't hurt to give it a try.
  • Reverse direction of your ceiling fans: By reversing the direction of your ceiling fans, the warm air will be pushed down and circulated throughout the house, making your home more comfortable and saving you money.

We hope these tips are helpful. If you or anyone you know is looking to buy or sell real estate, don't hesitate to reach out to us. We are never too busy for your referrals, and look forward to serving you soon!
